Psychotherapy with Gay, Lesbian and Bisexual Clients 3: Relationships, Families and Couples Counseling
by Ron Scott
Gay, lesbian, and bisexual couples and families are different from heterosexual couples and families in issues related to their social context and societal stigmatization.
Until recently, the couples and family therapy literature has ignored same-sex families and few clinicians have had training in this area.
In this groundbreaking program, you will see:

• Dr. Robert Jay Green, an innovative researcher and clinician, emphasize key issues and new approaches in providing mental health services to GLB couples, including relational ambiguity, sexual exclusivity, and development of social support networks.
• Dr. Armand Cerbone join Dr. Green in a discussion of how internalized homophobia affects relationships.
• Dr. Richard Rodriguez discuss the importance of families of choice for GLB couples.
• Dr. Isaiah Crawford, a leading scholar on same-sex parenting, summarize research-based characteristics of GLB family constellations, as well as provide very helpful suggestions on how therapists can provide support to GLB families.

Throughout this program interview clips from same-sex couples, parents and their children are used to illustrate and personalize the important material covered by the expert presenters. This video program will enhance your understanding of GLB relationships and families, allowing you to be more effective in conducting individual and couples therapy with this population

What therapists are saying…

"Relationships, Families and Couples Counseling  goes into detail on the major issues in couples counseling, forming a family, and parenting. A lot is packed into this video including determining whether the client’s LGBT identity is a factor in seeking therapy, helping couples at differing stages of LGBT identity development, addressing internalized homophobia, and dealing with parenting issues."

-- Sukie Magraw, PhD, Chair, PsyD  Program, JFK University
"Psychotherapy with Gay, Lesbian and Bisexual Clients is the best collection of videos about the social and psychological dimensions of this community. The series is well researched and covers many significant issues that GLB people meet in the course of their lives. I would recommend them to a wide audience including psychotherapists. family members, and GLB people themselves."
